Diagnostic & Lab Technology, Clarksville Vet

Our Diagnostic Services

Our fully equipped in-house veterinary diagnostics lab allows us to offer advanced diagnostic testing and allows our vets to quickly provide an accurate diagnosis of the medical conditions that your pet may be experiencing.

  • Radiography (Digital X-rays)

Using a radiograph (digital x-ray), we are able to examine your pet's internal systems in order to determine possible conditions that your pet may be experiencing but we are unable to see from the outside.

Radiography is non-invasive and completely safe. It uses minimal radiation levels and this means that radiography is safe for all animals regardless of condition. This makes this procedure safe for use on pregnant females and very young pets as well.

Your vet may use radiography to evaluate your pet's bones and organs, as well as diagnose possible medical conditions including broken bones, chronic arthritis, bladder stones, spinal cord diseases and some tumors.

  • Ultrasound

Diagnostic imaging is an important part of diagnostic testing as it allows our team of veterinary professionals to create incredibly detailed images of your pet's internal structures.

Ultrasound imaging uses high-frequency sound waves in order to produce images of the inside of your pet's body

Ultrasound images are captured in real-time, which allows us to see the structure and movement of your pet's internal organs as it happens, as well as blood flowing through the blood vessels.

This technology is incredibly valuable to our vets and readily available in our in-house lab which allows your vet to diagnose your companions condition quickly and treatment can start sooner.

  • Bloodwork

Our on-site lab in Clarksville has the ability to run a number of common and specialized blood tests in order to provide an overall view of the health of your pet, and to diagnose potential illness.

Some of the most common diagnostic blood tests that we perform are CBC (complete blood count), white blood count, hemoglobin and MCHC (mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration), hematocrit, platelets, eosinophils, and blood serum profile.

  • Urinalysis

Urinalysis is a key diagnostic test that uses the physical and chemical properties of your pet's urine in order to provide insight into your pet's overall health.

Urinalysis focuses on the health of your companion's kidneys and urinary tract system, but can also be used to diagnose issues in other organ systems and for discovering metabolic diseases such as diabetes.

This is a very important and highly recommended part of any pet's comprehensive routine veterinary care.

  • Fecal Exams

Our in-house vet lab in Clarksville will routinely perform a microscopic examination of your pet's feces which is commonly referred to as a fecal exam.

Your vet will use the results of your pet's fecal exam to diagnose GI infections that could be compromising the health of not only your pet but potentially your entire family. Fecals will allow your vet to determine if your pet might be suffering from intestinal parasites such as roundworms or hookworms.

Some parasites have the ability to be transmitted to humans and could make pets uncomfortable, irritable, and lead to more serious conditions.

Since these parasites live in your pet’s gastrointestinal tract, they are often hidden from view. The only way to detect them is with a fecal exam.

Annual fecal examines are recommended by your vet as an important part of every routine wellness exam.

  • ECG / EKG

Potential heart conditions are diagnosed using both physical examinations as well as X-Rays and an electrocardiogram (ECG / EKG).

As this procedure is fairly quick and easy it is highly beneficial in revealing data that may be integral to your pet's diagnosis. If necessary your vet may also require a cardiac ultrasound in order to identify disorders that may be affecting the chambers of the heart.

  • Digital Dental X-Rays

The damage caused by periodontal disease typically occurs below the gum line where it can't be easily seen. Digital dental X-Rays allow our veterinarians to fully assess your pet's oral health.

Digital X-Rays are completely safe for your pet and allow our team of veterinary professionals to thoroughly examine roots, bones and internal anatomy of your cat or dog's teeth.

Digital x-rays offer a much lower amount of radiation than traditional X-Ray technology. Because of this we are able to see below the surface of your pet's gum line to fully evaluate each tooth in a way that is completely safe for your beloved pet.

Your Clarksville vet will use this technology to see the results of the procedure in real-time, and have the ability to project them onto a computer screen to review.
